Discover the charm of North Limburg

You drive a short distance along the border into Germany. To the left lies the Reichswald, while to the right you look out over rural North Limburg. Located on the border is L8, a listening post on the Liberation Route. Here you can learn more about the start of the Rhineland Offensive in 1945. In Ven-Zelderheide, you see the Rust Na Arbeid, a windmill dating from 1881. A little further on, you pass the centuries-old Roepaen Estate. The monastery building, erected in 1881, now serves as a cultural center.

From the Niers stream valley, you drive into Gennep, an old and charming town with a fortified past. Just a little further on, the Niers flows into the Meuse. The Genneperhuis, a fortress destroyed by the French in 1710, once stood here. A lookout tower now stands on its foundations. Just past Middelaar, you pass an excavation of a Roman bridge on the banks of the Meuse. After your trip, enjoy an artisanal ice cream on the terrace of Clevers IJssalon Plasmolen.
