In Central Limburg your cycling heart will naturally beat faster. This route takes you through beautiful nature reserves such as the Munningsbos and the Melickse Heide. You also drive through some old church villages and the historic center of charming Roermond.
Cozy Roermond
On the Maas you drive for miles along the Maasplassen, the largest contiguous water sports area in the Netherlands. On one side you see the masts of many pleasure boats, on the other side you see Roermond. Of course you will also drive a bit through the historic part of this Limburg gem. For example, on the Markt you can see the iconic town hall that originally dates from 1700. St. Christopher's Cathedral from 1410 is also beautiful. From the Roerkade you cross the river via the Stone Bridge from 1771.
St. Dionysius Church
There is also plenty to see in the church villages. Just south of Boukoul you pass Zuidewijk Spick, a castle farm from the seventeenth century. Part of Asselt is a protected villagescape. You will see beautiful nineteenth-century farms and the St. Dionysius Church, located on a church hill, whose tower dates from 1515.
