From Afferden to Mook

From Afferden you cycle along the floodplains of the Maas. Every now and then the path comes closer to the riverbank, so that you have a beautiful view of the rippling water. Just above Gennep you cycle through the Niersdal with its grasslands, wet roughs and swamp forests. At the place where the Niers flows into the Maas, the Genneperhuis once stood. The history of this fortress is said to go all the way back to a Roman fortification. A watchtower now stands on the foundations. Along the Maas you cycle further to Mook, the northernmost town in Limburg. You cycle along the Mookerplas to Plasmolen where you can enjoy a delicious ice cream at Clevers Plasmolen.
