Historical gems in Brüggen
Get on your bike on the banks of the Hariksee. From here you cycle via the town of Born to Brüggen. This city has a rich history dating back to the late Middle Ages. It is therefore not surprising that you can view many remains of historic buildings here. Think of an old medieval city gate, a medieval water castle and the remains of a castle from the 13th century. So it is definitely advisable to get off your bike and take a look at this city. Zuidewijk Spick is a monumental castle farm located in rustic Boukoul. It consists of a high mansion under a hipped roof (gray tiles) and, together with the adjoining farm, attached chapel and service buildings, forms a rectangular complex with a courtyard. This whole is enclosed by a moat. The name Spieck or Spick is derived from the word 'spieker', which means 'grain shed'. In the past, the harvest was usually stored in a spieker to protect the field fruits from people who went on a raid.
