Enkhuizen: enjoy history and views

The route starts at Hotel Snouck van Loosen in Enkhuizen. From the heart of the city you drive onto the dike along the Markermeer. Here you can get a breath of fresh air while looking out over the rippling water. Time seems to have stood still a bit in Oosterleek, what a charming place! You cycle west, into the West Frisian polder. You regularly see a characteristic bell-shaped farm here. You drive through Hoogkarspel, further away is De Weelen: a rugged nature reserve where you can see what West Friesland looked like before the reclamation. From Andijk you drive a bit along the West Frisian Omringdijk. Until a century ago, the water of the Zuiderzee lapped against the dike here, but now you have beautiful views over the IJsselmeer. You enter the old center of Enkhuizen via Lighthouse De Ven from 1700.
