Description
On the edge of Zwolle is the medieval Polder Mastenbroek, one of the oldest reclaimed lands in the Netherlands. Get on your bike and discover the charm of this special and quiet landscape.
Polder Mastenbroek
From here you follow the course of the Zwarte Water to the two beautiful towns of Zwartsluis and Genemuiden. In the Polder Mastenbroek you see elongated plots of grassland that are separated by narrow ditches. The mounds in the landscape were raised by farmers who had no confidence in the then new technology of reclaimed land.
Old mills
The route takes you along the IJsselkade in picturesque Kampen. You pass D\\\'Olde Zwarver, a flour mill from 1842. Further on you pass De Valk, a flour mill from 1860. A little later you can make a stop on the cozy terrace of Restaurant De Oase. You cross the IJssel again to drive through the Polder Mastenbroek. How wonderfully quiet it is here!
