Description

Your route starts at De Oude Herberg. Today you walk across the Vughtse Heide, an old forest with dense shrubs, open spaces and water: a safe haven for numerous birds. King William II had an army base built here in 1844 to defend 's-Hertogenbosch: Fort Isabella. There were eight lunettes around it. At junction 16 you can visit National Monument Camp Vught, an impressive place. During the Second World War this was the only SS concentration camp outside Germany. The former camp now serves as a museum, with permanent and temporary exhibitions and a memorial room. You walk back through the heart of Cromvoirt, an authentic Brabant village. The church is beautiful and the former town hall from 1899 is also worth a visit.
