After this address we continue towards Oirschot center (via the new bicycle bridge) and the Vier Quartieren museum, with its beautiful old town hall on the Markt, now a TIP/Tourist Office. We leave the center via the Koestraat to a beautiful tasting room here. to discover. Here we continue towards Spoordonk with its beautiful watermill, where a little further on we turn right to FKP 9, where we can then enjoy the terrace of De Stroom again. From here we continue through the rural area of Oirschot and Best with its chapels and farmers who also sell their regional products and, among other things, delicious ice cream. Via the center of Best we arrive at the Museum de Bevrijdende Vleugels, and then take a canal route to FKP 12, where we are close to Puur Dutch where we can taste a few things (65x) to take home. (located on Bata site) From here we return along the canal to the starting point at the Hotel, but now via the new bicycle bridge over the N/A2.

L115: Robert Cole en Joe Man

Robert Cole memorial

In the woods between Son and Best, fierce fighting took place on 18 and 19 September 1944. German troops fought here against American paratroopers who had landed the day before and against advancing British troops from the south. The German troops advanced from Boxtel and Best and tried, among other things, to recapture the drop and landing areas at Son. Many soldiers died in this battle, including the brave Lieutenant Colonel Robert Cole and Private Joe Mann. After the fighting, both men were awarded the highest American military decoration: the Medal of Honor. At this listening point you will hear their stories.

Museum Bevrijdende Vleugels

't Boshuys
5681PT Best

This museum is dedicated to the occupation, oppression and eventual liberation during the Second World War. View authentic military equipment, old war vehicles, period photos and a 3D movie. You will be taken back in time in this museum. You can also take a simulation flight in a war plane and on special memorial days you can take a ride in a war vehicle. Much of the museum is about Operation Market Garden, the most important operation of the Second World War in the Netherlands. This operation eventually led to the liberation of the Netherlands. The museum originated from a temporary exhibition that was organized in Veghel on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of Operation Market Garden. The exhibition was such a great success that the collection was permanently housed in a museum in Veghel. The collection was later moved to a museum in Best, because the collection continued to grow. The museum is open every Tuesday to Sunday from 10am to 5pm.
