Description

Coevorden is an old fortified town that was once on the route from Groningen to Münster. The star-shaped city canal, the street structure and historic buildings: they date from the period after the city fire of 1592. You will drive past the Reformed Church from 1641. This is one of the first Protestant church buildings in the Netherlands. The rural area of Coevorden was a large swamp area for centuries. Now you can enjoy cycling through a landscape of grasslands, arable lands and forests. You drive a few kilometers along the Schoonebeekerdiep, a stream that marks the border between the Netherlands and Germany. Here you experience the characteristic Drenthe silence. On the way back you cycle along the Coevorden-Piccardie Canal that flows through the German peat land. After your ride you can enjoy a delicious meal at Hotel Restaurant Talens.
