You cycle along the edge of the Lemelerberg to Giethmen. Here you pick up the old path over which churchgoers used to walk back and forth to Ommen. The charming drawbridge over the Regge is an icon. In the vast forests of Boswachterij Ommen you can enjoy the unprecedented silence. After you have driven through the centuries-old hamlet of Junne and the beautiful Overijsselse Vechtdal, you will pass through the Bentinckbos. A little later you cycle through Rheeze, one of the most beautiful villages in Overijssel. There are some beautiful monumental farms on the Brink. You cross the Vecht again, after which you cycle through the Beerzerveld. Between junctions 88 and 5 you explore the Earlier Achterbroek: an ancient landscape of meadows, hedgerows and groves. The route ends at Camping & Boscafe De Lemeler Esch.

Sights

Giethemer Kerkpad

Giethemer kerkpad 5b
8147 RL Ommen

The Giethemer Kerkpad is a path that runs from Giethmen to Ommen. Residents of the town used to walk along this path to church on Sundays. This was the only way there. Giethmen is a hamlet in the municipality of Ommen. The town is located on the left bank of the Regge and Ommen is located on the other bank. This posed a problem for the residents of Giethmen who had to go to church in Ommen. This is how the Giethemer church bridge was created, which ensured that all churchgoers arrived safely at their destination. The bridge is a surprising structure in the middle of the natural and rural landscape. In the past you would find church paths at several places on which people walked to the church. These paths regularly ran over rivers and streams. Many of those church paths have been lost, but here between Giethmen and Ommen the path has been well preserved. A nice reminder of days gone by.

Esdorp Rheeze

7794 RG Hardenberg

The village of Rheeze is an esdorp that has existed since the early Middle Ages. Especially the green in the middle of the village with the old farms around it is a real eye-catcher. This village green, where cows and sheep used to be brought together in the morning and evening, has been well preserved and gives the village extra authenticity. The farms of the village are grouped around the green. Part of the village was designated a protected townscape in the 1990s. That is not surprising, because the atmospheric streets and old farms in this village are absolutely worth it. You will also find elongated wooded drifting dunes here that date from the time when nature still had free reign here. They form striking elements in the landscape. You will also find an area with a high archaeological value in the village where archaeological research takes place regularly.
