This route takes you through the valley of the river De Linde in Southeast Friesland. It is wonderful to cycle through a quiet stream landscape and through historic villages.

Bell chair
The villages in this region are full of beautiful historic buildings. The Bonifatius Church in Makkinga dates from 1777, the De Weijert mill is a flour mill from 1868. Oldeberkoop enjoys a protected villagescape, including a Bonifatius Church from the twelfth century. One of the oldest Frisian bell-chairs is located in Boijl. The accompanying church dates from the thirteenth century.

Language border
The river Tjonger forms the language border between Frisian and Low Saxon that is spoken south of this watercourse. It is nice to make kilometers in the river valley. You drive through a varied landscape of grasslands, small-scale forests and heathlands. It is wonderfully quiet here, so you can completely clear your head.

In Boijl you will find a typical Frisian bell chair. These buildings can be found in poor areas that did not have the money to build a church. The clock in this belfry dates from 1339.
