Walking through the Engbertsdijksvenen

Fancy a walk through a special nature reserve? Then walk this route through the Engbertsdijksvenen. Of the 25 hectares of living raised bog that is left in the Netherlands, 17 hectares are located in this Twente nature reserve! From junction C41 you walk along the Geesterens Stroomkanaal. During the extraction, small ships sailed here to transport peat, now it serves as a drainage channel. Just after junction C68 you look out over the vast heathland and fens. Forest grows on the sandy higher parts. Grab a bench and enjoy the silence and the view at your leisure. At C76 you cross the Connection Pipeline and you walk, partly on a wooden path, through a small peat area. Further on you can possibly visit the Veenmuseum. The route ends at De Johanneshoeve.
