You start your route at Flora Batava. You go south to Kockengen. Then you continue cycling and you pass Kamereyck. Here you can enjoy a cup of coffee or tea with a snack. If you continue with the route, you will cycle to the Nieuwkoopse Plassen. The Nieuwkoopse Plassen is a nature reserve with a typical Dutch landscape of approximately 1400 hectares. You then continue cycling along the water to the Vinkeveense lakes. You cycle across the water in the direction of Braambrugge. Then you go to Castle Loenersloot. Loenersloot Castle is a castle and former knight's court town on the river Angstel. It is not known exactly when this castle was built. But in 1258 the castle was first mentioned in a document. You then go through the village of Loenen aan de Vecht back to Nieuwersluis. Here you can take a look at Fort Nieuwersluis. Fort Nieuwersluis is an old fort that was dug in 1446. It was a connection between De Vecht and the Angstel, an important improvement for inland shipping between Amsterdam, Utrecht and Muiden. Due to the difference in water level between the two rivers, a lock was necessary. This is also where the name Nieuwersluis comes from. You continue with the route and you are back at Flora Batava. Hope you enjoyed your bike ride.

Watertoren

Watertoren De Meije, better known as Pietje Potlood, has been an unmistakable landmark in the region since 1932. But more importantly, the water tower also ensures that the residents of the Nieuwkoop region have good water pressure from the tap at any time of the day. It is the only water tower that Oasen still has in use. The water tower can store about 400m3 of water. More information on; https://www.oasen.nl/nieuws/een-kijkje-binnen-watertoren-de-meije
