The IJmond has been an important strategic region since time immemorial. Many important buildings have been built over the centuries. For example, the Romans built all their fortresses here and during the Second World War a line of defense was built by the Nazis. This cycle route takes you along the remains of the Atlantic Wall and the famous Defense Line of Amsterdam. A unique piece of history in the Netherlands.

Places of interest in IJmond
From the pick-up point in Velsen you cycle in the direction of Velserbroek. Along the way you will pass Beeckestijn country estate, an estate from the 18th century. Here you can get off to take a detour through the neatly landscaped ornamental gardens and leafy park forests. This way you can relax. The route then takes you through IJmuiden, Wijk aan Zee, Heemskerk and Beverwijk. Be sure to take a break in IJmuiden and take a look at the harbor and take a walk on the beach. Eating fish here is definitely recommended.
