Aa en Hunze, Drenthe, The Netherlands
Cycling route: 335712
Provided by: Groots Genieten
Bartje is a well-known fictional character by Drenthe author Anne de Vries. This route takes you past the museum "Het Dorp van Bartje" (Bartje's Village) and through the Drentsche Aa National Landscape, the best-preserved stream and esdorp landscape in Western Europe. This area offers a fascinating glimpse into Drenthe in the past. While almost every other area in the Netherlands was subjected to redevelopment, people here took the landscape as it was, so that it has hardly changed in 150 years. You'll cycle through a backdrop of grasslands, woods, hedgerows, and heathlands. In the authentic village of Gasteren, for example, you'll still see many old Saxon farms. The Asserbos is a remaining patch of ancient forests.
Below you will find various suggestions for breaks that you can visit during your route. These are divided into different categories, making it easy for you to choose.
