Through the Dollard from the port city of Delfzijl

Delfzijl was once a fortified city. You can still see this in the bustling harbor at the monumental Grote Waterpoort. The route also takes you through villages such as Siddeburen, Borgsweer and Hellum. The Groningen landscape is ideal for a day of cycling. You have beautiful views over the meadows, along the Schildmeer and along the many waterways. Here and there are tufts of young forests, such as at Wagenborgen where you enter the Oldambt. This vast agricultural area turns yellow in the spring from the rapeseed. In Hotel Restaurant de Boegschroef you can enjoy a relaxed meal and spend the night to extend your stay in this interesting region. There are also a few historic polder windmills on your route.
