The landscape southeast of Ommen shows you what this area must have looked like at the beginning of the twentieth century. The vast silent forests, the heathlands, the meadows in the Earlier Achterbroek: what a wonderfully tranquil area. Along the Overijsselse Vecht you drive along narrow paths along waving reeds or along dark beech avenues. You also cycle past small convex fields that are surrounded by hedgerows. Junne is a centuries-old hamlet that still largely consists of Saxon farms. How different is cycling near Geerdijk and Beerzerveld. The raised peat was mined here from the mid-nineteenth century, because the Twente textile industry needed peat as a cheap fuel. Stop off at Hotel-Café-Restaurant-Snackbar Beerzeveld along the way!
