This route takes you along some of the Frisian Lakes between Sneek and Joure, such as the Sneekermeer, Goëngarijpsterpoelen and Langweerderwielen. Lovers of pleasure yachts or skûtsjes will be amazed by this. On the banks you see waving reed collars, in the meadows and on the water you can spot many birds, such as godwits and lapwings. Tens of thousands of geese stay here in winter. There are several ancient villages in the vast landscape. In Broek, Akmarijp and Goingagijp you can still admire Frisian bell towers at the churches. Joure is known as the town where Egbert Douwes started a shop selling colonial goods such as coffee in 1753. In 1780, father Douwes transferred the company to his son: Douwe Egberts.

This state in the Frisian village of IJsbrechtum was built in 1625. Several grietmen of Wymbritseradeel lived here for a long time. In the 13th century there was already a wooden house on this location with stables and gardens. There was also a country house in the forest that is now located between the gate and the church. The country house was demolished around 1450, but remains of it can still be found. The garden around the house is designed in the English landscape style. However, there is not much of it anymore. In the course of the twentieth century, the park has acquired the character of a forest. At the beginning of the 21st century, the then owner attempted to restore the park to its original state, but failed. In the spring, many crocuses grow in the garden and snowdrops and yellow anemones also grow. That gives the park a colorful appearance. So be sure to take a detour here.

The exact year of construction of the octagonal flour mill is not known, this is between 1900 and 1971. The mill grinds grain on a voluntary basis. Visit option on Saturday from 9 am to 12 noon and by appointment.
