Print this route

This route shows you how different a country can be within a short distance. From the vast Groningen polder you drive to the national stream and esdorp landscape of the Drentsche Aa. You drive quite a bit around the Zuidlaardermeer. It is a nice place to get off and look out over the water or to spot birds. Via Zuidlaren, a village with seven village greens, you enter the Drentsche Aa National Landscape, the best preserved stream and esvillage landscape in Western Europe. Here you cycle through the Drenthe of the past with Saxon farms around the village green, fields on the rounded ash trees and hay fields in the lower stream valley.
