This route takes you through the natural countryside south of Roosendaal in Brabant. You walk across the Visdonk estate, but also a bit through the Rucphense Forests.
Pimped estate
The Visdonk estate already existed in the seventeenth century. In recent years, nature in the area has been significantly enriched. Here you walk through stately avenues, through a dense pine forest and through heathland where eagle fen grows. Between the forest plots there are grassy meadows where traditional Dutch cows roam. In summer it is a paradise for bell gentians around the Rozenven. You will also see many dragonflies and amphibians. A beautiful place to enjoy the silence.
Old peat canal
Centuries ago, there was a system of peat canals in this area to connect the peat areas with Roosendaal and Breda. Visdonk is still bisected by the Roosendaalse Vaart: a fifteen kilometer long peat canal dating from the fourteenth century, making it a real cultural-historical monument. At the end of your route you can enjoy a drink, snack and the sun on the cozy veranda of Brasserie Lodge Visdonk.
