Discover the Visdonk estate

This route takes you through the natural countryside south of Roosendaal in Brabant. You walk over the Visdonk estate, but also a bit through the Rucphense Bossen.

Pimped estate
The Visdonk estate already existed in the seventeenth century. In recent years, the nature in the area has been greatly enriched. You walk through stately avenues, through a dense pine forest and through heathland where eagle fen grows. Between the forest plots are grassy meadows where traditional Dutch cows graze. In the summer, the area around the Rozenven is a paradise of gentians. You can also see many dragonflies and amphibians. A beautiful place to enjoy the silence for a while.

Old peat canal
Centuries ago, this area had a system of peat canals to connect the peat areas with Roosendaal and Breda. Visdonk is still intersected by the Roosendaalse Vaart: a fifteen-kilometre-long peat canal that dates back to the fourteenth century, a real cultural-historical monument. At the end of your route, you can enjoy a drink, a snack and the sun on the cosy veranda of Brasserie Lodge Visdonk.
