The charms of Cerfontaine

It is wonderful to cycle around the Walloon town of Cerfontaine. You drive through a hilly bocage landscape with small forests, meadows and fields. On the terraces on the village squares you will notice the Burgundian slant: people like to eat well at a leisurely pace.

Picnic by the water
The route takes you along the banks of the lakes of the Eau d\\\'Heure. A lovely area to step off and enjoy a picnic. The 5 lakes did not originate naturally, but were constructed in the 1970s on the course of the river Eau d\\\'Heure. You can swim and kayak here, among other things.

The treasures of Senzeilles
Feast your eyes in Senzeilles. There is much to see, such as the nineteenth-century Sint-Martinuskerk. The eye-catcher is the astronomical clock on Rue de l\\\'Horloge. The 13 dials refer, among other things, to Halley's comet, to the constellations and to the cycles of the sun and moon. Remarkably enough, the clock was built by a self-taught artist: Lucien Charloteaux. It took him no less than 16 years.

The Castle of Senzeilles
On the Rue du Château you can take a look at the old Castle of Senzeilles. This castle was once a fortified castle with a keep whose foundations date back to the twelfth century. Part of the castle was heavily damaged during a shelling by the French army in the sixteenth century.
