Description

After the First World War, the German Emperor Wilhelm II fled to the Netherlands. From 1920 until his death in 1941 he lived in Huis Doorn. You can learn more about it in Museum Huis Doorn. You will also cycle past two castles whose history dates back to the thirteenth century: Castle Sterkenburg and Castle Beverweerd, which after a restoration on the outside looks just as it did in 1850. As you drive to the village of Cothen, you can see the Kromme Rijn meander through the landscape. This river once formed part of the border of the Roman Empire. From afar you can already see the church tower of Cothen, a charming town that enjoys a protected village view.
