Cycling route: 327335
Provided by: Schoonenberg
This beautiful cycle route of over 51 kilometres takes you through Waterland along Volendam and Marken. A typical Dutch route with Zaanse houses, mills and bridges. In Volendam you take the ferry to Marken. On this former island, now a peninsula, you see wooden houses on poles and mounds. You cycle past Het Paard van Marken, the lighthouse on the eastern point. Via the dike you cycle back onto the mainland. The cycle route continues through the municipality of Waterland, a beautiful area for cycling. Broek in Waterland was one of the most prosperous villages in Waterland in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries due to the rich merchants and captains. The route ends in Volendam, a real fishing village with of course the characteristic dialect. The area around the harbour is very atmospheric.
