Along the Maas between Beesel and Venlo it is wonderful to cycle along flowery floodplains. You pass through historic villages, such as Kessel. Here you can see the Onze-Lieve-Vrouw-Geboortekerk from 1873. Castle Keverberg is a former ruin that has been beautifully renovated, the building is definitely worth a visit. Further on you can take a trip to the Boekenderbos, where you cycle between the fragrant coniferous trees. Dubbroek is a nature reserve in an old Meuse bed. Here you see ash, pedunculate oak and black alders. Around node 59 you seem to be cycling back in time thanks to some beautiful old farms. In Venlo you cross the Maas and cycle to picturesque Steyl. Back in the historic heart of Beesel, it's time for a drink at Mert 5.

The De Grauwe Beer windmill has not always been at this location. Until the eighties of the last century, the mill stood in Antoniusstraat. The mill had fallen into disrepair in 1974 and was to be demolished to make way for new houses. In 1983 the demolition was stopped by residents of Beessel and the mill was restored and moved to its current location. A mill shop is currently located in the building. The mill itself is open and can be visited on Saturday http://www.grauwebeer.nl.
