Tour of Westerbork, Elperstroom and Boswachterij Schoonloo

Your route starts at Hotel Het Witte Veen. Westerbork is known for the National Monument Camp Westerbork, but the village itself is also worth a visit. Just outside Elp you cycle into the nature reserve around the Elperstroom. Groundwater is very important in this humid area. You continue cycling through Boswachterij Schoonloo, which is part of a vast forest area with dense forests and wet stream valleys. Schoonloo is located on the Rolderrug, an elevation in the landscape that reaches its highest point here, namely 22 meters above sea level. You feel it in your calves! Get off in beautiful Orvelte, a car-free green village. It is one of the most beautiful villages in the Netherlands. In this open-air museum you have plenty of time to get acquainted with Drenthe's history.
