3233630 Brabant hamlets and the Strabrechtse Heide

You drive a beautiful rural route through the nice Brabant village of Maarheeze and various nature reserves. The Somerense Heide consists largely of heathland reclamation, just like in the De Vroolijke Jager nature reserve, the conifers here are planted on former heathland. Just after Someren you enter one of the gems of Brabant nature: the Strabrechtse Heide. An immense plain of shrubs and heather where there are some beautiful and quiet fens. You might encounter the shepherd with his Kempense Heath sheep here. Stop off at the cozy Boscafé van Moorsel! You cycle further via Heeze Castle, beautifully situated in nature. The furnishings from the 18th century are still almost completely intact. You drive back to your starting point via the authentic hamlet of Leenderstrijp.

During the war, the local leader of the NSB lived here. People in the current municipality of Heeze-Leende were also members or sympathizers of the NSB. The real members had taken the oath of allegiance. Sympathizers paid less dues, often for a variety of reasons. Sometimes they had to become sympathetic in order not to lose their job. Others chose it because they would not have to go to German labor camps. Still others got married, borrowed money from people who were members of the NSB and were thus forced to become sympathizers. Even if you had paid off your debt, you could no longer leave the party.
