Description

Your route starts at Café Stroop. You drive to Etten-Leur via the village of Hoeven and De Toekomst, a flour mill from 1862. On the edge of Etten-Leur you will see the Mariakapel. Then you cycle past the Liesbos, the largest old pedunculate oak forest in the Netherlands. A little later you enter Princenhage, a former village that is now a district of Breda. You will see beautiful monuments in the Dreef and on the lively Haagsemarkt. The former town hall dates from 1792. Peat used to be extensively extracted in the Pannenhoef. Everything was transported in dried form (peat) via peat barges to Breda and Roosendaal as fuel for households and breweries. Now there is a beautiful nature reserve of forests, fens and flowery meadows. Rare plants such as heather scallops and marsh deer hay grow along the fens.
