Description

From the starting point, Restaurant Grebbelounge, you first cycle to Heimerstein Castle. During the Battle of the Grebbeberg in 1940 it was completely destroyed, but the castle was rebuilt in 1946. You will also see the Nieuwe Molen, a corn mill from 1911. Further on you will pass Fort aan de Buursteeg, which was built in 1786. In 1940 this fort was right in the front line when the Germans invaded. Around Renswoude Castle you cycle through an idyllic area of old farms, wooded banks and lowland streams. The castle itself dates from 1350. Ridderhofstad Zuylestein Estate was destroyed in the Second World War. In 1980 a new country house was built, the gatehouse and the orangery were restored. You cycle back through the forests of the Utrechtse Heuvelrug.
