Description

From here you first walk to beautiful Harlingen. You walk along the Westerzeedijk and have a beautiful view of the Wadden Sea. On the way back you make a beautiful loop through the Frisian countryside to Kimswerd. The village extends on two sides of the Harlingervaart. The village is centuries old: there are even finds from Roman times. Present-day Kimswerd has been inhabited since the seventh century. Terp villages like these are characteristic of the Frisian landscape. Centuries ago, the sea left more silt in some places in the salt marsh landscape than in others: elevations where it was safe to build. At the highest point is the St. Laurentius Church, with a Romanesque tuff nave dating from the 11th century.
