Description

Your route starts at Boerderijcamping De Jobinghoeve Grolloo. From here you walk over the slopes of the Drentse Hondsrug, a cover sand ridge in Drenthe and Groningen that extends from Emmen to the city of Groningen. Prehistoric burial mounds, dolmens and remains of medieval cart tracks adorn the rugged landscape here. During the penultimate ice age, there was an ice sheet here that was at least 200 meters thick, which had come from Scandinavia. The southern border was where the Rhine, Waal and Maas now bend. After the ice melted, many stones were left behind, which dolmens were used to build. A special area! This route introduces you to the Drouwenerveld, a vast heathland where you will find many fens. You also walk along the Eendenwater.
