Your cycling route starts at De Brasserie Ysselsteyn. Nearby you will discover the German War Cemetery. From here you first cycle past the highest point of De Peel: De Paardekop. The area is varied and varied, with higher and lower, dry and moist heathlands, forests, fens and water. The name'De Paardekop\\\' comes from a legend about a battle that took place in the area between horsemen. Many horse skulls are said to have been found. Then you discover the typical nature of Peel. The Deurnsche Peel and the adjacent Mariapeel around the peat colonies of Griendtsveen and Helenaveen are also remnants of this once extensive raised bog area. The area had dried out considerably due to the peat excavations, but attempts are now being made to preserve the raised bog by making nature wetter again.
