Tour of Geleenbeekdal and Hoensbroek Castle

Your route starts at Hotel Bemelmans Keutenberg. In the beautiful Geleenbeek valley you will discover Terborgh Castle, a nice place to poke around. You cycle along pristine grasslands, with a view of the green slopes of the Sweikhuizerberg. Nearby you will discover the highlight of the route (and the wider region): Hoensbroek Castle, one of the largest castles in the Netherlands. And one of the most beautiful! There was a motte on this site as early as around 1225. Due to its strategic location on the trade routes to Maastricht, Aachen and Cologne, this original castle developed into the largest castle between the Maas and the Rhine. Cortenbach Castle a little further away is one of the five castles of Voerendaal. The current one is built from the remains of the original medieval castle.
