Description
In the beautiful Geleenbeekdal you will discover Kasteel Terborgh, a nice place to browse around. You cycle along untouched grasslands, with a view of the green slopes of the Sweikhuizerberg. Nearby you will discover the highlight of the route (and the wider region): Kasteel Hoensbroek, one of the largest castles in the Netherlands. And one of the most beautiful! There was already a motte on this spot around 1225. Due to its strategic location on the trade routes to Maastricht, Aachen and Cologne, this original castle developed into the largest castle between the Maas and Rhine. Kasteel Cortenbach a little further on is one of the five castles of Voerendaal. The current one is built from the remains of the original medieval castle.
