Steep Bank Tour, Eerde Castle and Archem

You'll soon pass the severed branch of the Regge river at the Steile Oever (Steep Bank). The Eerde estate once covered 150 hectares, from the Vecht to the Regge. Although the estate has lost some of its size, the castle remains just as imposing. House Eerde was already known in 1227 and was expanded into a fortress in 1380. The castle was besieged, plundered, burned down, and rebuilt many times, until it reached its current form in 1715. Since 1934, an International School has been located in the former nobleman's residence. The estate also features a hall-house farm from the 8th century. You return along the Archemerberg, part of a moraine formed during the last ice age.
