This route takes you past nice places in and around Utrecht: Down Under and Fort bij Vechten. Along the way you will discover the Maarsseveense Plassen, popular among water sports enthusiasts. Near Groenekan you will pass the nineteenth-century Geesina Mill, which has been made suitable for grinding again. You also drive through the beautiful rolling forests of the Utrechtse Heuvelrug. The village of Austerlitz has a special history, it is named after a famous victory of Napoleon. The village originated at the French Camp Zeist, constructed in 1804. Fort near Vechten is part of the circle of forts around Utrecht, which is in turn part of the New Dutch Waterline. Below Nieuwegein you pass a city beach. You also drive along the water of the Vecht, where you will find many historic country estates such as Slot Zuylen.
