Description

Your route starts at Café De Gekroonde Suikerbiet in the historic town of Zierikzee, on Schouwen-Duivenland. The island once consisted of four islands (Schouwen, Duivenland, Dreischor and Bommenede) that have grown together thanks to nature and human intervention. From Zierikzee you walk to the Oosterschelde, the largest and wettest national park in the Netherlands. Due to the tide, the landscape here is different every time. At low tide you can see the plates and mud flats, at high tide it is a game of wind and water. Enjoy the views over the water and then dive into the city. Zierikzee has no fewer than 568 monuments. The best known is the Sint-Lievensmonstertoren from 1506. The old North and South harbor gates on the Oude Haven are two of the three remaining city gates of Zierikzee.
