Walking route De Velner Castle in Salland

Your route starts at Jorink Bakery - Lunchroom - Ice Cream Parlor. From Raalte you can take a nice walk through the low-lying part of Salland. Your route leads you to De Velner Castle, the location of a historic manor in the hamlet of Tijenraan. It was founded in 1382. The name of the area is Velnerhoek, referring to the former manor that stood here. The old building is now used as a farm, but the house was already mentioned on a list of feudal lords in 1380. In 1838 the original building was demolished; only the driveway and part of the canals have been preserved. The canals are still beautifully visible, and there is only a farm on the site of the left building from the Middle Ages.
