Description

The route starts and ends at Tilburg station. Through the Stationsstraat we drive past the police station to the Hiroshima monument and the tourist office. Past the chapel of Onze Lieve Vrouwe ter Nood we arrive at the Heikese or Dionysiuskerk . Dionysius is the patron saint of Tilburg. On your left you will see the Oude Markt , where there are several café-restaurants, including café Anvers , which has won several awards.

We turn left past the Heikese church. You will see the theater and concert hall on your right , and the courthouse on the corner in front of you . In front of you on the left you will see the palace-town hall , built by King Willem II , who enjoyed living in Tilburg for many years during the secession from Belgium and meant a lot to the city.

We turn right into Bisschop Zwijsenstraat. By the way, there is a statue of this bishop against the side wall of the Heikese church. At the Primus van Gilsstraat we turn left. There is a war memorial here. We head east, along the Piushaven . At restaurant Villa Pastorie we cross the bridge and turn right, under the viaduct. Marina De Werf is located here.

We cross the Wilhelmina Canal. Café-restaurant Zomerlust is located on your left, where you can charge your electric bicycles. A little further you turn right. On your right you will see a work of art: the skeleton of the former Moerenburg farm . Follow the road in a south-easterly direction: it winds under the road sections of the De Baars junction, in the direction of the Het Bakse Ven swimming pool (not open to the public). Here we turn right and follow the road towards Moergestel for some time. In the woods on your left you will find the westernmost of the Oisterwijk fens: the Galgeven . To reach this fen you have to go a long way into the forest, you will then temporarily leave this route.

When you reach the Eindhovenseweg, turn right and continue your way back to Tilburg. Here you first pass a crucifix, then you will find Koningshoeven Abbey on your left. Here the Trappists give daily tours of the old brewery at fixed times, there is a souvenir shop, a charging point and, of course, you can also buy beer. You will also find a tasting room, where you can taste the different types of beer, but where you can also eat or drink something else. You can also attend mass here on Sundays. De Schaapskooi is still located at the abbey, where the monks get milk and wool from.

We continue towards junction 82, where we turn left towards Biest-Houtakker. On the other side of the canal you will see the Beekse Bergen recreation park and the club house of student rowing club Vidar . At the drawbridge we cross the canal; this is where café-restaurant De Gulle Brabander is located. We continue our way along the canal, but a little further on turn right towards junction 5, in Biest-Houtakker. From there we drive through the village past the church and restaurant Wok Garden , named the best tested wok restaurant in the Netherlands in 2014 by the ANWB.

Just outside the built-up area, we turn left at junction 6 and cross the motorway from Tilburg to Hilvarenbeek a little further on. If you want to visit Hilvarenbeek, do not follow this cycle route, but Rondom Tilburg 9 (ZO) . On the other side of the motorway, go straight on, and a little later turn right, direction Goirle. The woods on your right are not freely accessible ( de Beekse Bergen safari park is located here); the woods on your left (the Gorp and Roovert ) do. Via junction 37 we arrive in Goirle.

In Goirle you will pass the church of Sint Jans\\\' Onthoofding , a war memorial, the VVV and one of the two Goirlese windmills . There are many opportunities in and around the De Hovel shopping center to enjoy a snack or a drink. There is a bicycle repair shop nearby. In the Kerkstraat you will find many typical old workers' houses . Via the Abcovenseweg, where there is still a small children's farm , we leave Goirle in the direction of Tilburg.

When we arrive in Tilburg we pass the King Willem II college . This is Tilubrg's oldest high school; it dates from 1865. In 1948 it was awarded the title Royal as the first and only HBS in the Netherlands. In 1866 , Vincent van Gogh was one of the students here. At that time, the school was still located in the palace-town hall built by King Willem II, which you saw earlier.

The route continues past the house where Vincent van Gogh lived during his study years (on Sint-Annaplein). There is a plaque on the first floor of the house in question. From here the route takes you back to the end point: Tilburg station.
