Description

The route starts and ends at Tilburg station. From here we follow the track in an easterly direction for a short time, but we soon turn right onto the Heuvel. De Heuvel is the central square of Tilburg, even though the center of the city is almost ten kilometers to the west. This is where the Heuvelstraat starts, the main shopping street of the city. You will also find the Heuvelse or Sint-Josefkerk here . At the Piusplein, also an old Frankish triangle, we turn left, and a little further on we turn right towards the Piushaven . Here you will find some cafe-restaurants.

In a south-easterly direction we continue our journey, out of the city and across the Wilhelmina Canal, to junction 82. Now we make a short detour to  the abbey of Koningshoeven , which you can already see in the distance. Here the Trappists give daily tours of the old brewery at fixed times, there is a souvenir shop and a charging point, and of course you can also buy beer. You will also find a tasting room, where you can taste the different types of beer, but where you can also eat or drink something else. You can also attend mass here on Sundays. De Schaapskooi is also located at the abbey, where the monks get milk and wool from.

We return to node 82, where we turn left and follow the canal in the direction of Biest-Houtakker. On the other side of the canal you will see the Beekse Bergen recreation park and the club house of student rowing club Vidar . We cross the canal at the drawbridge and drive past café-restaurant De Gulle Brabander . We pass junction 6 and turn left at junction 5, back towards the canal.

At the locks of Haghorst we turn right. With a bit of luck you will find that a ship is just being fired. In Haghorst you can also eat or drink something. We continue the road towards junction 2, where we continue in a westerly direction, to Diessen . In Diessen there is again ample opportunity to enjoy a snack or a drink. Continue in the direction of Hilvarenbeek. You will pass the Ananina\\\'s Rust estate, which is managed by the Brabants Landschap.

In Hilvarenbeek you first pass a bicycle repair shop. In the center of the village you will find several things that are worth a visit. The most eye-catching is the beautiful Sint Petrus\\\' Bandenkerk , located on the equally beautiful Vrijthof . There is also a war memorial and the local tourist office nearby.

Have you recovered from the tasting at the Trappists? Behind the church, on the Varkensmarkt, you will find the Liqueur and Frismuseum , and a little further on, in the direction of Tilburg, you will come to the museum brewery De Roos . Finally, past windmill De Doornboom and museum De Dorpsdokter , we leave Hilvarenbeek again. Of course you will find many cozy cafes and good restaurants in and just outside Hilvarenbeek.

We follow the Tilburgseweg in a northerly direction, and at some point drive between the recreation park Beekse Bergen (on your right) and the safari park Beekse Bergen (on your left). Both can be visited, but keep in mind that you should actually set aside a full day for both. A little past the entrance to the safari park you will find a café-restaurant on your left with some play equipment for the children:   The Two Burgundians .

We continue past the entrance of the Sint-Elisabeth Hospital. On your right, behind the hospital, is a large city park: the Leijpark . In the Broekhoven district we pass a monument on the Merodeplein, the church of the district, and another monument on the Bisschop Zwijsenstraat. At the end of this street you will arrive at the Paleisring, where you will see the court and the palace-town hall on your right, the concert hall and the theater on your left, and the Heikese or Dionysius Church opposite you. Dionysius is the patron saint of Tilburg. The palace-town hall was built by King Willem II , but he died before he could live there. After that it was used as HBS for a long time; Vincent van Gogh still went to school there. Nowadays it is used, among other things, as Tilburg's wedding hall.

We pass in front of the Heikese church. In front of you you will see the Oude Markt , where there are several café-restaurants, including café Anvers , which has won several awards. However, just before the Oude Markt we turn left, past the chapel of Onze Lieve Vrouwe ter Nood . We pass the tourist office and the Hiroshima monument before we finally return to our starting point: Tilburg station.
