This wine walk starts at Sint Christoffel Cathedral. Just behind this you can park conveniently in the Kazerneplein parking garage. You can walk straight into the center via a pedestrian tunnel. Take a look at the Rattentoren, the last remaining tower of the city wall from 1300.

The cathedral is also a nice place to step inside. This is the oldest part of Roermond, there used to be a castle. A strategic location: you had a good view from this small hill, right at the point where the Roer flows into the Maas. Climb the tower for a beautiful view over the Maas.

Take a look at the Markt and the town hall. Note the tower with the images that rotate every day at 12 o'clock.

Nearby is Restaurant Sabero. Nico and Sonja Boreas had a good restaurant in Heeze for years, but wanted a smaller-scale address to really pamper their guests. You can see the chef at work in the open kitchen, where you can also sit at the bar. Try his fish dishes! With care and passion they have selected the finest wines to accompany the dishes.

At the Roerkade you will pass Hotel Dux with Bistro Two. A nice place for a terrace on the quay, or remember this address for an aperitif tonight in the rooftop bar!

Nearby you cross the Roer via the ancient Stone Bridge, now a bicycle and pedestrian bridge with a beautiful view of the city.

On the other side of the water you walk into Voorstad Sint Jacob, a nice historic neighborhood that dates back to the Middle Ages. You can walk right past Toff, food and drink, a nice little restaurant with an equally small menu. There is a nice French atmosphere on the terrace under the trees.

You continue walking past Het Witte Kerkje. A little further on, the ECI power station forms a nice contrast to the historic buildings. In this former hydroelectric power plant you will now find the ECI Culture Factory and nice places to eat something. Like restaurant ONE. Take a seat at the Chef\\\'s Table in the kitchen or actively cook with Chef For One Day. With a beautiful terrace on the Roer for your aperitif.

Further on you will discover another culinary hotspot: Kasteeltje Hattem, in the city park. The smallest castle in the Netherlands. Here you will find a stylish restaurant with refined and surprising dishes from the French and Mediterranean cuisine.

A little further you walk across the Oude Kerkhof of Roermond. Very special because of the clearly visible division by religion, the large number of burial vaults (53!) and the many wrought and cast iron. Be sure to drop by'the grave with the hands\\\', a creative solution to show love in a mixed Protestant-Catholic marriage even after death. A large male hand and a delicate female hand with a lace cuff reach towards each other over the dividing wall. A tour with or without a guide is worthwhile.

If you walk back towards the center you will pass the Cuypershuis, which focuses on the famous Roermond architect Pierre Cuypers. Afterwards you will see a beautiful restoration work by his hand: the Onze Lieve Vrouwe Munsterkerk.
Near the church you walk past Damianz, in the former prison Het Arresthuis. With a beautiful terrace, the Luchtplaats. A nice quiet spot in the city with a Mediterranean atmosphere, thanks to the olive trees and the sound of rippling water. We recommend the Chefs menu with all signature dishes. There is a special wine list with a variety of organic wines, they are happy to advise you.

Also pay a visit to Wijnhandel Jean Berger. The fourth generation is now at the helm here. The medieval wine cellar is a wonderful place for a tasting!

The Munsterkerk is the most important church in Roermond. It is a cross basilica, built in the thirteenth century and restored by architect Pierre Cuypers in the years 1864-1891. The late Romanesque church was built as part of a Cistercian women's abbey. This Munsterabdij was founded around 1218 by Count Gerard III of Gelre, who is buried here together with his wife. Their tombs can still be seen in the church. For the current opening hours of the Munsterkerk, visit https://www.roermondparochiecluster.nl/parochies/munsterkerk.
