Tour of Brielle and Droogdok Hellevoetsluis from Rockanje

Your route starts at Pavilion Zomerzoen. From here you cycle through a unique dune area: Voornes Duin. Take a look at the Tenellaplas, dug in 1949 as a nature restoration project. A native garden was created at the visitor center using the released sand. You will find all biotopes from Voornes Duin here. The largely seventeenth-century fortress of Brielle is one of the best preserved defense works in the Netherlands. Brielle was captured from the Spaniards by the Beggars on April 1, 1572, hence the statement 'Alva lost his glasses on April 1'. Then you cycle to the port of Hellevoetsluis. Here you can visit the Jan Blanken Dry Dock, which was built between 1798 and 1822. Museum ship the Buffel is also recommended here, this is a ram tower ship built in 1868.
