Natural environment of Postel

Nature, nature and more nature. This is how you can characterize this beautiful route through the Belgian and Dutch Kempen. You go out for a day in a green and quiet oasis. A wonderful trip to shake off the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

Part of the route you drive through Boswachterij De Kempen. Civilization seems far away here. While you let the pedals spin, you zoom through endless forests dominated by conifers. Sometimes there are tufts of heathland or fields, sometimes you suddenly feel some cooling from a babbling brook.

From the hamlet of Weebosch the ground becomes somewhat moist due to the presence of streams such as the Run and the AA. In this stream landscape you see hedgerows, heathlands and pools. And of course some authentic Kempen long-gable farms.

Just after you cross the border again, you drive a few kilometers along the natural banks of the Bocholt-Herentals Canal. You will pass through the De Maat nature reserve, where your backdrop consists of hay meadows, deciduous forests and swamps. You will also see a striking cultural monument: one of the few remaining original Bailey bridges from the Second World War. You cross the canal via this bridge and drive through the woods around Postel back to the starting point of the route.
