Tour of Weerterbos and Nederweert

This tour through the lovely towns of Weert and Nederweert introduces you to a surprising cultural history. You will also pass through the Weerterbos, a beautiful nature reserve. It is one of the few natural forests in this region. Get off at the watchtower where you can spot red deer. Near this watchtower you pass the monument for the former border church, which stood here in the woods from 1648 to 1712. Nederweert, a little further on, was separated from Weert in the fourteenth century. There is a nice atmosphere around the Sint-Lambertuskerk. In the old Nederweert-Eind you can see beautiful historic farms. You cycle back along the Moeselpeel, a swamp area with willow marshes and reed beds that you can see beautifully from the country roads.
