Via the Reindersmeer and through nature near Well

Just north of the town of Well, the Maas forms the border between North Brabant and Limburg for miles. This route takes you through part of this border area where nature and cultural history go hand in hand. The base for this route is Restaurant De Wellsche Hut. The combination of dunes and Limburg is not very obvious, but it does exist: you see them in the Maasduinen National Park. These river dunes were created at the end of the last ice age, when the Rhine and Meuse left behind large amounts of sand and clay. Just after you cross the Maas, you will see the Maasheggen. This weaving of hedges already existed in Roman times: it took Julius Caesar a lot of effort to pass these green walls with his army.
