Today we leave early for a long ride of 140 kilometers over very hilly terrain. We cross Limburg and arrive in Valkenburg aan de Geul, the cycling epicenter of the Netherlands. In Valkenburg we turn up the Cauberg for the first time. Holy cycling ground! We have started the final loop of the Amstel Gold Race. The Geulhemmerberg, Bemelerberg, Wolfsberg, Loorberg, Gulperweg and the Kruisberg are successively on the route before we start with the real finale. The always treacherous Eyserbosweg (beware: it gets even steeper in the woods), the beautifully running Fromberg, the steepest street in the Netherlands, can be found on the Keutenberg (22% rise). This is followed by a fast descent towards Valkenburg and we take the Cauberg one more time. It chops into it after such a long day in the saddle.
