Gorssel - Lock Eefde - Gorsselse Heide

South of Deventer, sandwiched between the ship stream and the Dortherbeek, lies the Oxerhof estate . This estate is already mentioned in the 16th century as the country estate of the Duke of Gelre. During World War II, the Germans took over the building and used it as a camp for political prisoners.

In the outskirts of Gorssel you drive through a mosaic of forests, small-scale landscapes and flowery fields and fields. It is wonderful to make kilometers in this quiet region. You can see the Noorsche Huis on the Molenweg. This building was bought in Norway in 1913 as a kit. In Gorssel itself you can visit Museum MORE , which is dedicated to modern-realistic art from the Netherlands. Lock Eefde is a lock complex. The complex is located in the Twente Canal and is a national monument from 1933. The lock at Eefde is the connection for shipping between the IJssel and the Twente Canal and is also used for water management in the eastern Netherlands. At KP 43 lies Huis de Voorst - a stately 17th-century house in a beautifully varied landscape. You can get married in the house. The house burned down almost completely in 1943. It has been restored in old style, but the interior could not be restored. Behind the house is a special garden.

From KP 38 you cycle along the Gorsselse Heide , a former military training and shooting range. The Gorsselse Heide is a beautiful wet heath area with a special flora and fauna and has the potential to become the natural pearl of the Achterhoek.
