Cycling through Westfriesland and the Wieringermeer

Shortly after boarding you will find the first historical sight: the West Frisian Omringdijk, the only monumental dike in the world. A little later you cycle through the wide Wieringermeerpolder. This was built in 1930 on part of the former Zuiderzee. Two years later, Middenmeer was built on this new land on the model of a green village. Further on you drive through the picturesque Kolhorn, an old fishing village that was located on the Zuiderzee until 1844. In the Weere you pass some beautiful farmhouses. There is also a part of the former Schagen - Wognum tramway that was in use between 1898 and 1930. Finally, you pass through Hoogwoud. Here you can see a flour mill from 1650, a village church from 1680 and a former town hall from 1742. Beautiful!
