In the past, agriculture was the main means of livelihood in this region. Often this barely yielded enough to live on. On many farms people earned some extra money with cottage industries such as weaving, shoemaking and blacksmithing. In the Erve Hofman museum farm (junction 13) in Hellendoorn you can get acquainted with the former farming life. Den Ham (junction 25) is characterized by the cozy Brink and the Gothic church tower dating from the 14th century.
