Landgoed Groot Heidestein

Groot Heidestein
3971ND Utrechtse Heuvelrug

Heidestein estate with ponds, bridges, tea house and ice cellar was built around 1906 in a former heathland landscape. To prevent the original heathland from growing over, a herd of Drenthe heath sheep grazes the area. Heidestein is also home to a large population of sand lizards.

The estate owner built a narrow gauge railway here in the last century. For example, the family could take pleasure rides on their own estate in their specially made passenger car 'De Bornia'. The concrete wall along the path is the remainder of a platform.

Pyramide van Austerlitz


3931MG Woudenberg

The 36-high pyramid was built in 1805 by soldiers of Napoleon and one of the highlights of the Heuvelrug. From the top you have a beautiful view of the region in clear weather.

Landgoed Den Treek


3832 RT Leusden

Situated on the transition from the Utrechtse Heuvelrug to the Gelderse Vallei, bought by WH de Beaufort in 1807. The Henschoten estate was added to this by the marriage of his son Arnoud Jan to Anna Aleida Stoop. Together they cover 2,200 hectares of impressive nature.
