We have always said that Overijssel is un-Dutch beautiful. You don't have to go abroad to visit a vineyard, castle or wetlands. This is the place to be! Between Vroomshoop and Tubbergen is a beautiful nature reserve: De Engbertsdijsvenen, which covers an area of 1000 hectares. It is an international wetland and the largest and most important raised bog area in Western Europe.
This cycle route takes you to times gone by. In the open-air museum "The Veenmuseum" life and work in the peat is depicted on the basis of authentic peat huts. A nostalgic ride with the peat train is also possible.
The route takes you from Vriezenveen on the "Hazenpad", get off halfway here and walk a little way into the peat on the "Knuppelpad". Continuing the road you will pass the monastery grounds of the Cistercian monastery of Great Galilee in Sibculo. Little remains of the Monastery itself, but the history is kept alive in the Museum "Visible Past".
Cycle through the old villages of Bruinehaar and Langeveen and stop further on to take a look at Blue Berry Nursery "De Greftenhoeve". Taste a slice of delicious homemade blueberry pie here. Finally, take a look at the Historical Museum Vriezenveen and learn everything about the special history of this village.
